8.2.1 Information relevance and timeliness
If the people collecting the information know what the stakeholders’ objectives are and what type of information they need to fulfil those objectives they can then concentrate on the relevance and timeliness of that information.
The characteristics of relevant information are:
- Timeliness – the information is delivered to the stakeholders in time to make decisions and to be used in the operational process.
- Pertinency – the information is relevant to the user’s request.
- Accuracy – the information is sufficiently accurate to enable the user to rely on it for decision making.
- Comprehensiveness – the information is detailed enough for the required application and does not contain superfluous information.
- Frequency – the information is related to the timescale of the activity involved.
- Logical – the information is presented in a way that enables the user to understand it easily within an agreed context i.e. devoid of technical jargon.
