4.9.6 Benefits to consumers

FDI not only creates jobs: it may also increase the level of competition between producers. This competition stimulates capital investment and increases consumer choice. This in turn tends to drive down prices to the ultimate benefit of consumers. However, this needs to be countered with the discussion in the section later on titled 'Adverse effects on domestic firms'.
