9.2 Marketing communication process
Promotion is about two-way communication with customers. This means that we have to understand the basics of the communication process if we are to understand the basics of promotion. The model of the communication process as shown in Figure 16.2 in Kotler et al. (2004, p. 612) indicates that communication has seven key elements:
- source of the message ¾ the sender
- encoding the message
- message medium
- decoding the message
- receiver or audience
- feedback and response
- noise.
