Conclusion

Changes in the external environment affect organisations both directly and indirectly. All managers need to be aware of the current and future trends in their environment that are likely to impact on their function in the organisation. Managers must attempt to anticipate and monitor environmental influences in order to assist the organisation to adapt in such a manner as not to threaten the organisation itself.

The external business environment has a continuous and profound effect on the management of the organisation. Often a manager or an organisation does not have the power to control external influences - but if you ignore them you may expose your organisation to threats and may even miss valuable opportunities.

That fact that the consequences of organisational activities and processes affect the wellbeing of society poses the question of the social responsibility of managers for those consequences. In recent times there has been a tendency for Australian organisations to recognise, in words or actions or both, specific responsibilities to the community on such matters as interference with the physical environment, pollution and education.
