Conclusion

The fact that the consequences of organisational activities and processes affect the well being of society poses the question of the social responsibility of managers for those consequences. In recent times, there has been a tendency for Australian organisations to recognise, in words, actions, or both, specific responsibilities to the community on such matters as interference with the physical environment, pollution and education. Managerial ethics and social responsibility are issues about which managers are expected to have clear policies, both personally and organisationally.

There is no question that society's expectations of business organisations have changed. Many instances of what was considered 'proper conduct' are now being challenged. Managers must continually monitor society's expectations and be prepared to deal with these factors appropriately.

Key management concept

The entrepreneurial challenge is to think creatively about how to prepare the organisation for the future. Who are our stakeholders and what do they expect from us?
