7.5.3 Core values
The core values are the primary or dominant values that are accepted throughout the organisation . The subculture will include the core values and will have additional values unique to the particular subculture.
Consider this
Stop here and attempt to articulate the 'personality' of your organisation. What are your organisation's beliefs, values, philosophies and traditions?
To aid you, think about the following:
- observed behavioural regularities in interactions, such as language used and shared rituals
- the norms that evolve in working groups
- the dominant values maintained by an organisation, such as 'product quality', 'price leadership' or, 'product and people working together'
- the 'philosophy' that guides an organisation's policy towards employees and customers
- the rules of the game for getting along in the organisation, or the 'ropes' that a newcomer must learn in order to become an accepted organisation member.
