8.1 Dealing with change and the changing nature of change
Henry Ford is reputed to have said that anyone who stops learning is old, whether 20 or 80. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.
The concept of change has become orthodox. By this we mean that organisations now operate in an era where the concept of slow, incremental, evolutionary change has been replaced by the concept of fast, revolutionary change. That change is now happening more quickly than at any other time in business history is a firmly held belief.
As a manager you should plan your direction on the assumption that changes will occur. Managers must maintain flexibility to deal with changes as they arise.
