2.6 Summary

Information technology is one of the key enablers of new emerging business models. The implementation of integrated business processes is becoming easier with the improvement in global computer and communication standards. Most firms are still operating on IT systems based on fragmented functional systems. This greatly inhibit superior business performance as information integration is fundamental to business process integration. There are, however, the new computer based technologies of ERP systems and DSS, which, together with the internet, are helping firms to achieve their goal of information integration.
