3.4.3 Model and data validation

Once all data have been collected and prepared, a model of the network can be built which will consist of models of the various logistics subsystems. As Powers (1993) has observed, creating models of the various logistics subsystems permits the crystallization of large amounts data into focused analysis. Before the complete system model is used for any analysis, it needs to be validated. The most usual way is to validate the model and data is by comparing the input and output with real life data of the existing network. Any discrepancy in the output of any element will require the model to be re-evaluated and adjusted to reflect the real life scenario.
