4.4.3 Supply chain inventory

Inventory management principles need to address the issues of supply chain inventories. This is not only relevant for firms which have a vertical structure with common interest in retailer, distribution and manufacturing units; this is also relevant for all firms in the new business model which considers the supply chain across organisational boundaries. The new supply chain concept recognises that firms within a supply chain must cooperate in order to reduce costs across the supply chain and remain competitive. Inventory management is one of the key areas which requires a supply chain approach.
