In this chapter we looked at transportation and distribution strategies available to firms to enable integration with other supply chain activities in order to reduce costs, and improve service response time. We looked at the emerging trend of demand management based on real time information, a shift away from traditional forecast driven replenishment policy. And we looked at its effects on supply chains, inventory policies and distribution patterns.
