7.2 The Beer Game

The beer game was developed in the MIT in the USA in the 1960s to teach system dynamics. The purpose was to make participants aware of how independent business units take supply chain related decisions (inventory replenishment decisions) in real life under a very simple scenario and its effects on the overall system performance. The original game was a board game played by students in groups.

The following extract from Chopra and Meindl (2001) provides you with a description of the board based Beer Game.
