9.6 Summary
The trend of globalisation and the parallel growth in outsourcing by firms have expanded the problems of integrated supply chain management to a great extent. As firms push for newer markets or for cheaper sources of product with entry into new territories, they become exposed to many uncertainties. It becomes imperative for firms to adopt a flexible approach to manage the various aspects of the supply chain. There are no universally applicable solutions and each firm must take effective strategies applicable to its unique situation. The types of risks have been discussed in a generalised way with a few specific examples and these should serve to highlight the dimension of the risks and some of the emerging trends in global supply chain management.
