2.1.1 Job Performance plans
At the commencement of each planning or appraisal cycle an individual appraisee's job outcomes and standards of performance should be reviewed.
Fundamentally, this will involve going beyond the Goal Alignment exercise to translating the job description into competencies (performance outcomes).
Goal alignment in each workplace will determine the goals/Key Result Areas expected to be supported by the individual's effective completion of allocated tasks.
In addition, the Performance Work Plan must also determine the competencies (skills, knowledge and attitudes) to achieve the tasks or job duties within that job. Many enterprises now have competency profiles that describe the standard of performance required at various levels for different tasks performance within jobs. In countries such as Australia, UK, Malaysia, South Africa and many others, national competency profiles exist for certain occupations, sector activities and enterprises. These profiles or manuals help frame the standards of performance required for a given position.
Having identified the KRAs and renewed the position's competency standards, it is then possible to complete a Performance Work Plan with the immediate supervisor (Appraiser).
