6.5 Provide financial and human resources for the effective operation of the OHS system

It is the responsibility of the manager to ensure that they comply with all regulations relating to workplace safety. This extends to the allocation of sufficient human and financial resources to implement an effective OH&S system. This suggests that operational and other planning processes must encompass and address such needs.

Activity 4

How do you secure sufficient human and financial resources required to implement an effective OH&S system? This is a critical question.

1. In your workplace context analyse, research and answer the following:
   • Do policies and procedures exist to guarantee the OH&S system is resourced on a company-wide basis?
   • Do managers have to make a case to secure resources to acquit OH&S obligations?
   • Who is responsible for determining what resources are required to implement an effective OH&S system?
   • If a manager is not allocated sufficient resources to implement an effective OH&S system, and a injury or death occurs in the manager's work team, in that workplace, who is responsible according to your state's legislation?
