1.2.1 A planning process

A vision or destiny orients the workforce towards ends that all can identify with, and share in their achievement. Creating the vision generates the direction and purpose for the business. It is usually the first step in a strategic planning process.

It is worth noting that Business Plans intend to establish the budgets, resources and co-ordinate different functions towards the achievement of broader corporate strategic objectives or result areas. The translation of the Business Plan into an operational management level permits managers to:

Translate corporate strategy into the team/work unit outcomes;

• Communicate team/work unit intentions on what they will do and whether it is feasible; and
• Provide operating guidelines, resource allocation, and measurement tools.
