1.2.2 Tactical and operational planning

Plans need to be separated between those that have a tactical role, and those with an operational focus. Tactical plans are developed to implement specific part of a strategic plan. They usually have specific resources allocated, including a budget, a set time frame and monitoring mechanisms. Business Plans and Project Plans may be tactical. Within this definitional context operational plans represent even more specific plans relating to narrow aspects of the business or strategic plans. They concentrate on goods and services being delivered and allocate timeframes, resources and monitoring mechanisms to teams or individuals responsible for operational performance.
