While capacity planning varies with an organisation's two basic human resource strategies are discussed below to illustrate how resource management and capacity planning intersect.

Performance effectiveness in any organisation requires not just capacity but also the availability of the skills and knowledge necessary to perform to optimal levels. The availability of competent labour can be used as a useful example of capacity planning.
