2.1 Materials management
The basic elements of materials management can be identified as:
- anticipating material requirements
- sourcing and obtaining materials
- receiving materials
- monitoring the level of stock.
This means that materials management is the system that keeps the production line working smoothly without break. The materials manager is involved in every stage of the production process - the supply side of logistics. This, in turn, ties in with the commercial objectives of the firm to achieve best returns on investment while remaining competitive.
