Summary
This module has given a little more depth to our earlier study in Module 4 on mobile applications, technology and architecture. However, our focus has been less on the devices and more on the enablement of m-commerce.
Our study has extended our view of e-commerce into the new world of mobility. In so doing it has hopefully convinced the reader that m-commerce, whether enabled by wireless, cellular or satellite networks, has forever taken e-commerce away from a reliance on the World Wide Web and access to the Internet over fixed connections. In removing the blinkers from such a focus we should also appreciate the trend towards mobility is increasing, both in terms of business and consumer connections and their use of such networks. As part of our awareness of this trend we should also appreciate that m-commerce has provided innovations in ICTs that are changing how we manage and conduct e-commerce. Not only have the means to sell to customers changed, so have the means for businesses to conduct and manage their supply chain.
It is the role of e-commerce in supply chain management that we will now move on to examine in the next module.
